Open Question: how do i check for a tax lien on a property?

i ve got an opportunity to rent a house for a nice deposit then a lump sum at the end of the year 'to cover his back taxes'. no month to month payment till after the lump at the end of the year. however, the wife is worried the house will be foreclosed on cause of back taxes. can we find any of this info out, and where? the city is sunset hills, mo. if that helps/matters
